The story of the «Bären»

«The Bären» was Adelboden's first inn, opened in 1569. The original house was divided into several parts at street level - the Restaurant Bären, a saddler's workshop and a local store for food provisions.

At the end of the 19th Century, the hitherto owner, one Christian Germann, sold the property to Johannes Burn, who passed it on to his son Paul in 1928. The original 365-year-old building was demolished in 1934, completely rebuilt and re-opened in December 1935.

The buisiness remained in the hands of the Burn family until the summer of 1964, and from the winter season 1964/65 on it was run by leaseholders - the Trachsel family. Our family bought the freehold from the Burn heirs in the summer of 1989 and we opened on 6 December the same year.

The Hotel Bären was completely renovated during a four-month period in summer 1991. Today, we offer guests two restaurants and 14 comfortable and fully-equipped bedrooms.

Your hosts are looking forward to welcoming you!
